[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] L&K Biomed, a developer of spinal implants, announced on the 30th that it has received a core design patent registration decision for the height-adjustable cervical fusion cage XCI in South Korea.
This is a design patent for a structure used in spinal fusion (the procedure of connecting spinal segments) when the human disc is damaged. It is used to maintain the fusion of two spinal segments by inserting the cage after removing the disc. The core design feature is the shape of the height-adjusting adjustment member, which has screw shapes such as star, hexagon, and octagon. The locking part is characterized by being fixed to the plate body so that it can rotate.
A representative from L&K Biomed explained, "We have obtained not only functional patents but also design patents," adding, "We have enhanced the completeness of the intellectual property rights of the XCI product."
They further added, "This means we have gained a competitive advantage in intellectual property disputes related to height-adjustable cervical fusion cages."
The cervical implant market accounts for about 30% of the total spinal implant market. L&K Biomed expects to increase sales and expand market share through market penetration in the future, leveraging its cervical-related technology and excellent product competitiveness.
