[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province has launched the nation's first 'eSports Promotion Committee.'
On the 29th, Seongnam City announced on the 30th that it had launched the eSports Promotion Committee based on the 'Seongnam City eSports Promotion Ordinance' at Sanseong Nuri in Seongnam City Hall.
The eSports Promotion Committee will serve as an advisory body on Seongnam City's mid- to long-term eSports promotion plans and detailed implementation plans to foster a healthy eSports culture and industrial foundation.
The chairman of the eSports Promotion Committee is Jang Young-geun, Deputy Mayor of Seongnam (ex officio). The committee consists of nine members, including university professors and lawyers.
On this day, the committee held its first advisory meeting regarding the design plan for the dedicated eSports stadium that Seongnam City is promoting for construction, aiming to open in 2024.
The dedicated eSports stadium is a facility that Seongnam City is building with a total investment of 39.3 billion KRW (including 10 billion KRW from provincial funds).
It will be constructed on a 6,959㎡ site at Hwansang Children's Park in Sampyeong-dong, Bundang-gu, within Pangyo 1 Techno Valley, with a total building area of 8,899㎡, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors.
The stadium will include a main arena with 413 seats and a secondary arena with 72 seats, as well as multipurpose rooms and player-exclusive spaces.
Chairman Jang Young-geun stated, "eSports is a sport where players compete using computers, networks, and video equipment," adding, "We will gather the valuable opinions of committee members to nurture it as a core content of the Asia Silicon Valley Seongnam Project."
