At Least 60 Dead Due to Flooding in Northern Afghanistan

According to the reports, heavy rainfall caused flooding in the Kamdesh area of Nuristan Province, about 200 km northeast of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Local rescue authorities have reported that at least 60 people have died and around 200 are missing. It was also reported that 300 houses collapsed in one village.

Floods cause many casualties in Afghanistan every year. At the end of August last year, floods occurred in northern Afghanistan's Parwan Province and other areas, resulting in about 200 deaths.

Afghanistan has recently been hit by a series of hardships, including the spread of COVID-19, severe drought in the central and southern regions, and civil war between the Taliban and government forces.
