[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] New COVID-19 cases have been reported in Beijing, the capital of China, for the first time in over six months.

According to Xinhua News and others on the 29th, the Beijing COVID-19 Prevention and Control Center announced that from the 28th to noon on the 29th, two new local COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Beijing. These individuals contracted COVID-19 after traveling to Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province, a famous tourist destination.

The Chinese government and Beijing city have implemented entry control policies including a three-week facility quarantine upon arrival in Beijing, and no local cases had been reported in Beijing since January 28. However, with the reintroduction of COVID-19, Beijing is strengthening its quarantine measures.

Meanwhile, among the 24 new local COVID-19 cases and 2 asymptomatic infections reported the previous day by the National Health Commission of China, many were found to have recently visited Zhangjiajie.

China News Network evaluated that Zhangjiajie performances, along with Nanjing Lukou Airport, have become the "eye of the storm" in the spread of COVID-19.
