Jeonnam Fire Headquarters Provides Proactive Public Support Including Fire Truck Cooling Spraying and Stakeholder Consulting
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) is strengthening proactive public support activities amid the scorching heat and is making every effort to prevent heatwave damage.
According to Jeonnam Fire Headquarters and Jeonnam Province on the 29th, due to the heatwave continuing since the 9th, 59 cases of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and exhaustion have occurred, and about 20,000 livestock including pigs, chickens, and ducks have died, causing continuous damage in the Jeonnam area.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters has decided to minimize heatwave damage by patrolling livestock facilities, traditional markets, and farmland areas during heatwave hours (1 PM to 4 PM) throughout the province until the end of next month.
For about 700 livestock facilities with a total floor area of over 3,000㎡, after prior consultation with related parties, cooling water spraying using fire trucks on livestock roofs and surroundings, as well as consulting on fire prevention for cooling devices, will be conducted simultaneously.
In addition, fire officers and volunteer firefighters will conduct daily patrols during heatwave hours at 112 traditional markets in the province, carrying out surveillance activities and water spraying using fire hydrants within the markets to ensure thorough safety management.
The 119 Life Safety Patrol, launched in May and scheduled to expand to all cities and counties in Jeonnam by August, will patrol farmlands, fields, and greenhouse complexes, engaging in public guidance activities to prevent heat-related illnesses among residents.
Currently, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters has formed heatwave emergency teams at 18 fire stations to respond immediately to heat illness cases, equipping ambulances with 12 types of heatwave equipment including ice vests, totaling over 20,000 items, operating until September 30.
Ma Jaeyoon, Chief of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, said, “To prevent additional damage caused by the ongoing heatwave, we will implement various measures and make every effort in heatwave response activities so that residents can have a safe summer.”
