Professor Jo Moon-gi, Head of the Department of Elderly Welfare at Soongsil Cyber University, to Appear on YouTube Program 'Baekse Toktok' on the 18th

Professor Jo Moon-gi (Department Head) of the Department of Elderly Care Welfare at Soongsil Cyber University (President Han Heon-su) appeared on the ‘Baekse Toktok’ program, which is broadcast on the official YouTube channel of Maeil Business TV, on July 18. He captured the attention of subscribers by delivering various information and insights about the Long-Term Care Insurance system for the elderly.

During the broadcast titled “Must Check if You Are 65 or Older!! What Benefits Can You Receive from the Long-Term Care Insurance for the Elderly?”, Professor Jo explained, “The Long-Term Care Insurance is a system exclusively for elderly people aged 65 and above in South Korea. It is a system where the government takes responsibility to support elderly individuals who need care due to illness or other reasons, with the National Health Insurance Service assisting in their long-term care.” He added, “This insurance was created through national consensus and is closely related to social integration.”

Professor Jo continued, “As of June 2021, 11.5% of the National Health Insurance premiums are allocated to the Long-Term Care Insurance for the elderly. This means that all citizens collectively take care of elderly people who need assistance.” He emphasized, “Ultimately, this is not just a family issue but a value of integrated care that encompasses local communities and the entire country.”

He also provided an easy-to-understand explanation of how to utilize the system, the types of long-term care benefits, eligibility criteria, and grading, helping subscribers better understand the Long-Term Care Insurance for the elderly.

The Department of Elderly Care Welfare at Soongsil Cyber University focuses on training competent social workers equipped with both theoretical expertise and practical skills in elderly welfare, social welfare, and care fields. Upon graduation, students can obtain a Bachelor of Social Welfare degree, and depending on the curriculum completed during their studies, they can also acquire certifications such as Level 2 Social Worker, Childcare Teacher, and Health Family Specialist. Additionally, students are eligible to take the Level 1 Social Worker examination, and upon passing, they can work as social workers in various fields.

Moreover, graduates can work as social welfare public officials participating in public social welfare administration, health family specialists specializing in family counseling and therapy, or find employment in childcare institutions. They can also pursue graduate studies or work in research institutes to explore more diverse career paths. In 2020, with support from the Ministry of Education, the department developed and operates a three-month Care Management (CCM) course for elderly care workers. They have also developed six course contents including Dementia Elderly Care, Care Management, Long-Term Care Technology 1, and Long-Term Care Case Management, which have been distributed free of charge to long-term care institutions for the elderly for three years.

Meanwhile, Soongsil Cyber University, celebrating its 24th anniversary this year, has established a powerful e-learning system and state-of-the-art mobile LMS, enabling 100% lecture attendance and exam participation via PC and smartphones. It is an online educational institution where students can simultaneously obtain a four-year regular bachelor’s degree and nationally accredited and school-certified certificates upon graduation.

The university offers tuition fees at about one-quarter the level of regular offline universities and operates various internal scholarship programs such as admission, general, academic, clergy (pastors, evangelists, missionaries, ministers and their families and church members), military scholarships (for military officers and their families, veterans), corporate-sponsored education scholarships, scholarships for the disabled, and equal educational opportunity scholarships, supporting students to continue their studies without financial burden.

Following the record-high competition rate for the 2021 second semester regular admissions that ended on the 9th, Soongsil Cyber University is accepting applications for additional admissions for the second semester from July 21 to August 18.
