[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is undertaking intensive repairs on the section from Sinchon-ri to Dongsan-ri in Sang-ri-myeon along the Sacheon River.
According to the county on the 29th, the 6.4 km section has a narrow river width, and the embankments and revetments are old, causing sediment to accumulate easily. There were urgent concerns about fundamental measures as heavy rains could lead to flooding of houses and farmland, resulting in human and property damage.
Accordingly, the county proposed a river disaster prevention project to Gyeongnam Province and will use the secured 15 billion KRW to create a safe and beautiful river.
The project will be implemented by Gyeongnam Province, with detailed design work to be completed by September, followed by compensation negotiations with landowners by November. Construction will then begin, with completion scheduled for 2024.
The county plans to minimize inconvenience to residents by collecting their opinions during the construction process.
In addition, the county is continuously consulting with Gyeongsangnam-do to maintain the 1.5 km upstream section (around Jeomteo Village in Dongsan-ri), which was excluded from the project, and is doing its best to expedite the project.
County Governor Baek Doo-hyun stated, "Not only here but also in areas affected by heavy rains, we will do our best to protect the lives and property of residents by establishing fundamental measures rather than just emergency repairs."
