Led by coach Kang Jae-won, the team defeated Japan 27-24 in the third match of Group A in the women's handball group stage held on the 29th at Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Ace Ryu Eun-hee scored 9 goals, while Jung Yoo-ra and Lee Mi-gyeong each scored 4 goals.
After losses to European powerhouses Norway and the Netherlands, Korea succeeded in turning the atmosphere around with a victory in the Korea-Japan match. They also revived their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
The national team will play their fourth match against Montenegro at 11 a.m. on the 31st.
Group A consists of Korea, Norway, the Netherlands, Japan, Montenegro, and Angola, with the top four teams advancing to the quarterfinals. Korea can secure a spot in the quarterfinals on their own by winning the remaining matches against Montenegro and Angola.
