Incheon Airport's Second Hydrogen Charging Station Opens at Terminal 2... About 180 Hydrogen Cars Charged Daily

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 29th that following the opening of the first hydrogen charging station near Terminal 1 of Incheon Airport in January, it has completed the construction of the second hydrogen charging station near Terminal 2 and will operate it starting from the 30th.

The hydrogen charging station at Incheon Airport Terminal 2 is located on the site near the Terminal 2 access road (3231 Unseo-dong) and will operate year-round from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The newly opened Terminal 2 hydrogen charging station is the largest commercial charging station in Korea (1000kg/day) capable of simultaneously charging hydrogen buses and hydrogen (passenger) cars. It can charge about 180 hydrogen (passenger) cars and about 40 hydrogen buses daily. The charging time required is within 5 minutes per hydrogen (passenger) car and within 15 minutes per hydrogen bus.

This Incheon Airport hydrogen charging station construction and operation project is part of the Ministry of Environment’s private capital subsidy project for hydrogen charging stations to expand the domestic hydrogen vehicle supply.

To this end, the corporation signed an agreement for hydrogen charging station installation last April with Hydrogen Energy Network, Hyundai Motor Company, and Air Liquide Korea, and completed the construction of the largest station in Korea and the 100th station nationwide within 14 months.

The corporation plans to accelerate the realization of a low-carbon eco-friendly airport by leading green mobility based on the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure, including the introduction of hydrogen vehicles for official use and the expansion of hydrogen charging stations.

Since January, it has introduced 84 hydrogen vehicles for official use and 7 hydrogen shuttle buses, converting all official vehicles of the corporation to eco-friendly vehicles, and plans to gradually expand hydrogen vehicles within the airport by additionally introducing 10 hydrogen shuttle buses by 2025.

Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "Incheon Airport is actively leading the realization of a low-carbon eco-friendly airport through the expansion of hydrogen charging station infrastructure and the pioneering introduction of hydrogen cars and hydrogen shuttle buses. Going forward, we plan to expand eco-friendly vehicle charging infrastructure and convert all operating vehicles within Incheon Airport, including those of the corporation, airlines, and ground handling companies, to eco-friendly vehicles, aiming to become a leading green mobility airport."
