[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Kang Min-jin, leader of the Youth Justice Party, described the so-called 'Julie mural' controversy as "misogynistic black propaganda" and emphasized, "I sincerely hope this presidential election will not be stained by misogyny."
On the 29th, Kang said on Facebook, "Murals have been painted, and music videos have appeared. Posts talking about 'Julie' are overflowing on social networking services (SNS)," adding, "The Democratic Party and its candidates should step forward and ask their supporters to stop."
Kang pointed out, "The Democratic Party's attitude of standing idly by feels no different from intending to gain political advantage from this."
He said, "The problematic mural included a list titled 'Julie's Men.' Such criticism would never have been directed at men in this manner."
Kang stated, "The claim that the 'Julie' allegations represent meaningful verification only proves that there is a curiosity filled with misogyny and sexual scandal behind it," and criticized, "If the intention is to verify corruption involving the candidate's relatives, the issue should be the corruption itself, not Julie."
He added, "I also believe that corruption related to presidential candidates must be clearly revealed," emphasizing, "I sincerely hope this presidential election will not be stained by misogyny."
The controversial 'Julie mural' consists of six murals painted on a wall measuring 15 meters wide and 2.5 meters high in front of a bookstore in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It is known that the bookstore owner painted them around mid-month. The murals contained defamatory content reminiscent of Kim Gun-hee, wife of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, including phrases like 'Julie's dream! The First Lady's dream!' In response, some conservative YouTubers held protest demonstrations.
