[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The Korea Information and Broadcasting Communications Alliance (ICT Alliance) announced on the 29th that former Minister of Information and Communication, No Jun-hyung (photo), has been appointed as the 5th president.
No, the newly appointed president, who passed the 21st Administrative Examination and started working at the Ministry of Information and Communication in 1994 after serving at the Economic Planning Board, has held key positions such as Director of Planning and Management and Vice Minister. He served as the Minister of Information and Communication for about a year and a half during former President Roh Moo-hyun's administration. In the private sector, he served as the 9th president of Seoul National University of Science and Technology.
President No is recognized for his contribution to successfully establishing the high-speed information and communication network while working at the High-Speed Network Construction Task Force during the early days of internet service dissemination, laying the foundation for South Korea to grow into an internet powerhouse. His background as an ICT expert with strong interest in the convergence of telecommunications and broadcasting, balanced development of the ICT industry, and other areas is seen as the reason for his selection.
President No stated, “The ICT Alliance should contribute to enhancing communication among ICT professionals, expanding social roles by specialized fields, preparing for the future ICT industry, alleviating social conflicts, and developing the ecosystem of advanced ICT industries. To implement this, I plan to interact and cooperate with various experts from member companies of the ICT Alliance, government officials, and senior figures in information and communication across different fields.”
