[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the opposition People Power Party, has proposed restructuring public jobs and significantly creating private sector jobs.

On the 29th, Hong stated on Facebook, "If I come to power, I will restructure and drastically reduce public jobs to ease the tax burden on the people, and promote private sector autonomy and creativity to greatly increase private sector jobs."

Hong emphasized, "Jobs should be created in the private sector, and drastically reducing public jobs to ease the burden on future generations is a normal national reform policy in an advanced country era."

He criticized the Moon Jae-in administration's expansion of public jobs. Hong said, "Four years ago, during the impeachment election, when candidate Moon Jae-in said he would increase public jobs by 810,000, I criticized that doing so would lead us to a failed Greece. According to a report by a certain daily newspaper, since the Moon administration took office, public jobs have increased by 220,000 over the past four years, and the total public sector labor costs have exceeded the total labor costs of the top 500 domestic companies, rapidly increasing the financial burden on future generations, heading towards a Greek-style crisis. This is an abnormal government operation."

He continued, "Public jobs are merely a way to divide tax money and are not a job creation measure," adding, "During the same period, private sector jobs increased by only 35,000, but with public jobs increasing sixfold, this distorted national management will inevitably lead us to a failed Greece."
