Samsung C&T, Ranked No.1 in Construction Capability Evaluation for 8 Consecutive Years... 2nd Hyundai Engineering & Construction, 3rd GS Engineering & Construction

Samsung C&T, Ranked No.1 in Construction Capability Evaluation for 8 Consecutive Years... 2nd Hyundai Engineering & Construction, 3rd GS Engineering & Construction Top 10 Companies in Construction Capability Evaluation (Civil Engineering and Architecture Construction) / Provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.


[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Gang-wook] Samsung C&T maintained its position as number one for the eighth consecutive year in the construction company capability evaluation.


The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that Samsung C&T ranked first in the civil engineering and architecture construction sector with a construction capability evaluation amount of 22.564 trillion KRW in the ‘2021 Construction Capability Evaluation’ conducted nationwide for construction companies.


The construction capability evaluation is a system that comprehensively assesses construction performance, management status, technical capability, and credibility to calculate the construction capability evaluation amount (CCE amount), which is publicly announced every July and applied from August 1. The CCE amount is used as a basis when project owners impose bidding restrictions or when the Public Procurement Service operates systems such as the qualified bidders list or minimum subcontracting price system.


Samsung C&T has held the top spot in CCE amount for eight consecutive years since 2014.


Hyundai Engineering & Construction ranked second with 11.377 trillion KRW, the same as the previous year, and GS Engineering & Construction ranked third with 9.9286 trillion KRW, moving up from fourth place last year.


Daelim Industrial, which ranked third last year, recorded eighth place after splitting its construction division to establish DL E&C. DL E&C explained, "This is a temporary drop due to the evaluation method, and from next year, the ranking will return to its original position by applying the existing evaluation method."


The companies ranked 4th to 8th last year each moved up one step. Fourth place was POSCO Engineering & Construction with 9.5157 trillion KRW, fifth was Daewoo Engineering & Construction with 8.729 trillion KRW, sixth was Hyundai Engineering with 8.477 trillion KRW, seventh was Lotte Engineering & Construction with 6.785 trillion KRW, and eighth was DL E&C with 6.4992 trillion KRW. Ninth and tenth places were HDC Hyundai Development Company with 5.6103 trillion KRW and SK Eco Plant (formerly SK Construction) with 4.9162 trillion KRW, maintaining the same rankings as last year.


Looking at the major rankings by construction type in the general construction industry, in the civil engineering and architecture sector, Hyundai Engineering & Construction led with 7.3209 trillion KRW, followed by Samsung C&T with 6.6924 trillion KRW, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction with 6.3016 trillion KRW.


In civil engineering, Hyundai Engineering & Construction ranked first with 1.206 trillion KRW, Samsung C&T second with 1.3107 trillion KRW, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction third with 1.2468 trillion KRW. In architecture, Samsung C&T led with 5.3817 trillion KRW, Hyundai Engineering & Construction followed with 5.2608 trillion KRW, and POSCO Engineering & Construction was third with 5.0896 trillion KRW.


In the industrial and environmental facilities sector, Samsung Engineering recorded 4.2497 trillion KRW, Samsung C&T 2.1405 trillion KRW, and GS Engineering & Construction 2.1159 trillion KRW. In landscaping, Daewoo Engineering & Construction had 149.5 billion KRW, Daebang Construction 59 billion KRW, and Hanwha Construction 48.1 billion KRW.


Looking at major rankings by construction type, in civil engineering, ‘roads’ were led by Hyundai Engineering & Construction (740.8 billion KRW), DL E&C (623.5 billion KRW), and Daewoo Engineering & Construction (561.1 billion KRW). ‘Dams’ were led by Samsung C&T (193.4 billion KRW), DL E&C (42.8 billion KRW), and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (32.4 billion KRW). ‘Subways’ were led by Samsung C&T (345.6 billion KRW), GS Engineering & Construction (240.3 billion KRW), and Doosan Construction (128 billion KRW). ‘Water supply’ was led by Kolon Global (62.3 billion KRW), POSCO Engineering & Construction (32.3 billion KRW), and Taeyoung Construction (32.2 billion KRW). ‘Land development’ was led by SK Eco Plant (238.2 billion KRW), Hyundai Engineering (178.5 billion KRW), and Daekwang Geonyeong (142.3 billion KRW).


In architecture, ‘apartments’ were led by Daewoo Engineering & Construction (4.1972 trillion KRW), GS Engineering & Construction (4.1581 trillion KRW), and POSCO Engineering & Construction (3.8045 trillion KRW). ‘Office facilities’ were led by Hyundai Engineering & Construction (964.9 billion KRW), Samsung C&T (713.3 billion KRW), and Hyundai Engineering (536.8 billion KRW). ‘Industrial buildings’ were led by Samsung C&T (3.5044 trillion KRW), S&I Corporation (1.1434 trillion KRW), and SK Eco Plant (1.0424 trillion KRW).


In the industrial and environmental facilities sector, ‘industrial production facilities’ were led by GS Engineering & Construction (1.6412 trillion KRW), Hyundai Engineering (1.1717 trillion KRW), and SK Eco Plant (989.8 billion KRW). ‘Thermal power plants’ were led by Samsung C&T (2.004 trillion KRW), Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (1.011 trillion KRW), and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (424 billion KRW). ‘Energy storage and supply facilities’ were led by Hyundai Engineering (423.7 billion KRW), Daewoo Engineering & Construction (319.8 billion KRW), and POSCO Engineering & Construction (226.2 billion KRW).


Meanwhile, a total of 70,347 construction companies applied for this year’s construction capability evaluation, accounting for 90% of the total 77,822 construction companies.
