[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Choi Jae-hyung, former Auditor General and presidential candidate of the People Power Party, stated on the 29th that he cannot tolerate the mural defaming Yoon Seok-yeol candidate's family, calling it "dirty violence."
On the same day, Choi said through social media (SNS), "I came across news that a mural defaming Yoon Seok-yeol candidate's family was displayed on a street in Jongno," adding, "I truly cannot contain my anger."
He condemned, "This is low-quality defamation and political violence, a character assassination under the guise of freedom of expression," and said, "Engaging in such personal attacks under the pretext of freedom of expression damages the value of democracy."
He continued, "It is an act that brings the dignity of our country's politics down to the ground."
Choi emphasized, "Verification of candidates and their associates in the presidential election is absolutely necessary," but added, "There is a line that must not be crossed. If that line is crossed, everyone who wants to protect democracy must unite to stop it."
He further stated, "This kind of dirty violence against human beings must stop immediately."
Choi quoted liberal thinker John Stuart Mill, saying, "As long as we live in society, it is inevitable to observe certain rules of conduct to coexist with others," and added, "We must never tolerate actions that regress democracy under the name of freedom of expression."
The day before, Choi had thrown a check by proposing a meeting with former Prosecutor General Yoon, mentioning issues such as 'factional problems.' However, on this day, he expressed his intention of solidarity by stating that personal attacks against former Prosecutor General Yoon are unacceptable.
