[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Starbucks Coffee Korea announced on the 29th the launch of four new plant-based food items made exclusively with plant-based ingredients, without using any animal-derived components: ‘Hazelnut Brownie,’ ‘Bamkongdalkong Soy Milk Bread,’ ‘Plant Ham & Rucola Sandwich,’ and ‘Plant Hamburger & Pasta Meal Box.’

The new products use plant-based meat alternatives, allowing customers who avoid meat, eggs, dairy, and seafood to enjoy them without concern. The ‘Hazelnut Brownie’ features a chewy brownie made with dark chocolate and soy milk, topped with savory hazelnuts, while the ‘Bamkongdalkong Soy Milk Bread’ is a soft bread made with soy milk, generously filled with chickpeas and domestically sourced Boeun chestnuts, delivering both savory and sweet flavors.

The ‘Plant Ham & Rucola Sandwich’ is Korea’s first sandwich to use cold-cut vegan ham, combining rustic ciabatta bread, salty vegan ham, subtly aromatic rucola, and tomato to create a fresh and satisfying meal. The ‘Plant Hamburger & Pasta Meal Box’ offers the appealing chewiness of vegan meat and penne pasta, enhanced by a tangy and sweet plant-based sauce that adds depth to the flavor.

Starbucks is focusing on developing sustainable food and beverages, starting with the launch of plant-based foods in February, in response to the growing trend of value consumption that considers the environment and animal welfare.
