[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has partnered with KT to launch a service that guides users to the nearest fire hydrant through navigation. In October, an illegal parking notification service around fire hydrants will also be introduced.
The Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 29th that they have integrated the "Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service" into KT's navigation service, One Navi, and started the service.
The Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service incorporates 29,442 public data points of Gyeonggi's firefighting water facilities into KT's navigation technology. By entering "fire hydrant" in the search bar, users can easily identify the locations of nearby fire hydrants sorted by shortest distance.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters explained that KT sympathized with the development and promotion of the Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service, leading to the creation of the system.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters plans to pilot the Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service in the Gyeonggi area before expanding it nationwide. They also intend to actively pursue adding the service to other navigation platforms.
Additionally, in October, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will introduce a "Real-time Notification Service for No Parking Zones within 5 meters of Fire Hydrants."
This service alerts drivers in real-time with voice and images if they park or stop within the no-parking zones around fire hydrants.
According to current Road Traffic Law, parking or stopping within 5 meters of firefighting facilities such as fire hydrants results in fines of 80,000 KRW for passenger cars and 90,000 KRW for vans.
This fine is about twice as high as the general illegal parking fine.
Lee Sang-gyu, head of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, stated, "With the implementation of the Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service, fire scene response will become faster. Furthermore, with the introduction of the real-time no-parking notification service starting in October, illegal parking around fire hydrants will significantly decrease, greatly contributing to the safety of residents."
