Residents of Apartment Complexes in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Draw Attention with 'Healing Garden' Creation

Residents of Apartment Complexes in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Draw Attention with 'Healing Garden' Creation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] As a small practice to save the rapidly deteriorating global environment due to climate change, residents of an apartment complex in the Gwangju area have attracted attention by creating a "Healing Garden with Flowers Blooming All Year Round."

Employees of the management office and residents of Humancia Complex 6 in Suwan District, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City recently held an event called "Creating a Healing Garden with Flowers Blooming All Year Round," planting various flowering trees such as peonies, hydrangeas, and four-season roses.

Residents including single-person households, low-income families, and children participated in the event, adding more meaning to it.

The event was selected for the "Happiness Gwangsan United by Flowers" contest project commissioned by Gwangsan-gu and was carried out with a project fund of 5 million won.

Eleven-year-old Lee Jiseon, who participated in the event, said, "I want to become a green master who cherishes flowering trees and make the Earth peaceful."

Sixty-six-year-old Yang Jeonggeum said, "I like the verse from poet Kim Youngrang's poem, 'Until the peony blooms, I will wait for my spring.' I will especially observe the peony flowers and, while nurturing them with love, understand why Kim Youngrang compared hope to peonies." She added, "I hope the peonies we planted become a message of hope that prevents global warming and protects the environment, leading to a nationwide event."

Seo Youngju, the head of the management office, said, "This event was held to understand the seriousness of environmental pollution such as greenhouse gas emissions and global warming and to practice green living to save the Earth." He added, "We will continue to carry out small practices for environmental protection together with the residents."

Meanwhile, the Suwan Humancia Complex 6 management office plans to conduct an electricity-saving campaign this summer as part of a movement to lower the Earth's temperature by 1 degree.
