[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters is working hard to prepare for the National Firefighting Skills Competition.
According to the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters on the 28th, the "34th National Firefighting Skills Competition" will be held this October in Gongju, Chungnam.
In preparation for this, the participating athletes from Gwangju Fire Department (17 people in 4 events) have been training daily since May 31 at four locations including the Gwangju Fire Academy.
The National Firefighting Skills Competition is a contest where athletes (teams) selected from fire departments of 19 cities and provinces nationwide compete in firefighting skills (rescue, suppression, first aid) developed and honed through fieldwork and training.
This year, due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, the competition has been reduced from 11 events to 4 events: fire tactics (speed water discharge, fire suppression tactics), rescue tactics (applied rescue), first aid tactics (basic resuscitation, advanced resuscitation), and the strongest firefighter (individual) competition events.
On the previous day, Go Minja, head of the city Fire Safety Headquarters, visited the Gwangju Fire Academy to check on the training preparations and offer encouragement.
Head Go said, "I hope the sweat shed by the firefighters preparing for the competition in the heatwave will bear good results," and added, "The suppression tactics and rescue skills mastered during training will be used to protect the safety of citizens in the future."
