[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Changwon National University in Changwon, Gyeongnam announced on the 28th that it has been finally selected for the '2021 Defense Industry Specialized Workforce Training Project (Gyeongnam)' organized by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.


This project, led by Changwon National University, aims to train specialized personnel for the defense industry field in Gyeongnam and support their employment in defense companies.


It is promoted to resolve the mismatch between youth unemployment and the shortage of specialized personnel in the defense industry, and is conducted with a support fund of 297 million KRW from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.


The project period is a total of 8 months, recruiting 40 trainees for 2 months, followed by 4 months of introductory defense industry courses and advanced specialized training starting in October, and finally a 2-month practical training program at defense companies.


The advanced training reflects the manpower demand of Gyeongnam Province's defense industry and operates tracks in defense machinery, mechatronics, and defense management.


In the defense machinery track, specialized personnel will be trained in defense parts design, analysis, processing, and reverse engineering; in the mechatronics track, in embedded software for weapon systems; and in the defense management track, in management fields such as defense costing and defense quality management systems.


Professor Kim Heung-seop of the Department of Industrial Systems Engineering, the overall project director, said, "This project is a customized curriculum designed to train outstanding youth as specialized personnel for the defense industry and supply them to defense companies," adding, "It is expected to contribute to alleviating youth unemployment and strengthening the competitiveness of local defense companies."
