[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Telecom announced on the 28th that it has established a top-tier 5G and AI-based smart demo factory in the Changwon National Industrial Complex in Gyeongnam in collaboration with the Korea Electronics Technology Institute.

The smart demo factory was built within the Smart Manufacturing Process Innovation Center operated by the Korea Electronics Technology Institute. SK Telecom provides an environment that rapidly collects data from key equipment such as robots, transportation systems, and processing machines without delay by utilizing 5G communication infrastructure technology.

Additionally, SKT offers its data analysis and management solution, 'Grandview,' in a private cloud environment to manage equipment operation status and provide functions to quickly monitor and analyze issues arising during maintenance processes.

Grandview, an AI-based monthly subscription service, is a specialized solution for the manufacturing industry that offers services such as ▲real-time equipment monitoring ▲pre-failure alarms for equipment ▲maintenance database creation ▲AI analysis modeling.

At the Changwon demo factory, SK Telecom plans to provide the Grandview infrastructure to manufacturing solution partners to discover various new business models and promote collaboration between companies in order to develop manufacturing equipment-specialized convergence services.

Companies located in the Changwon National Industrial Complex can test and verify services that integrate IT and OT (Operation Technology) through the demo factory by receiving manufacturing solutions and support for the ‘D (Data) - N (5G Communication) - A (Industrial Artificial Intelligence) technology package’ necessary for the manufacturing industry. It serves as a kind of test bed.

Song Byung-hoon, Director of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute Center, stated, “By actively supporting advanced solutions such as dedicated AI, digital twin, 5G-based industry, and Internet of Things (IoT) for the advancement of ultra-precision machining, leveraging the Korea Electronics Technology Institute’s leading R&D capabilities, we will actively support companies in the Changwon industrial complex to grow into tech companies with global competitiveness.”

Choi Nak-hoon, Head of SK Telecom’s Smart Factory CO (Company), said, “We are pleased to support SKT’s 5G, AI, and big data technological capabilities in the opening of the Smart Manufacturing Process Innovation Center,” adding, “Through this collaboration, we will help companies in the Changwon National Industrial Complex drastically reduce trial and error and application time in the smart factory adoption process, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of Korea’s manufacturing industry.”
