Conveying the Industry Perspective on Digital Trade
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Kang Hoseong, CEO of CJ ENM, will appear on the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s YouTube content 'Tongsang IT Suda' together with Yoo Myunghee, Director-General for Trade Negotiations, to convey the industry’s perspective on 'digital trade.' CEO Kang plans to contribute to the expansion of digital trade through K-content.
CEO Kang Hoseong and Director-General Yoo Myunghee will appear on the talk show-style 'Tongsang IT Suda,' which will be released on the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s YouTube channel 'Tongsang TV' on the 29th. They will provide opinions and information from the perspectives of the government and businesses on the new trade issue of digital trade. Related content will also be available on affiliated YouTube channels and CJ ENM’s YouTube channel.
CEO Kang and Director-General Yoo will discuss the concept of digital trade, recent global trends, government policy directions, and the path digital trade should take for the domestic content industry to grow globally. CEO Kang explained, "CJ ENM has continued its business with the conviction that K-content would achieve worldwide success long ago, based on the philosophy of 'cultural patriotism (文化保國),' which enabled us to achieve global results."
He also revealed plans to continue focusing on producing well-made global content to expand global achievements. CEO Kang stated, "We are moving beyond simply distributing or remaking our intellectual property (IP) to conducting business that produces localized content by utilizing local original IP." As an example, he mentioned the collaboration with Skydance, the production company behind the 'Terminator' and 'Mission: Impossible' series.
CEO Kang and Director-General Yoo discussed the importance of digital trade and the role of K-content, emphasizing that South Korea should be at the center of digital content growth. In particular, CEO Kang explained the difficulties posed by cultural differences in the global expansion of content and stressed that overcoming cultural barriers and promoting inter-country openness are essential for the global growth of K-content.
There was also a communication session where CEO Kang Hoseong personally answered questions from general viewers. In response to a viewer’s question about "which areas to focus on in the digital trade era," CEO Kang replied, "We are entering an era of convergence between content and digital technology," adding, "We expect K-content to dominate the global mainstream market by focusing on virtual content such as VR and XR, and building virtual worlds like the metaverse."
CEO Kang Hoseong emphasized, "I will do my part to support the global growth of K-content and contribute to digital trade through content."
