[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Baekjo Sink Co., Ltd., a specialist in stainless steel sink bowls, is launching the Double Sink Bowl BD832. While single-bowl (1-BOWL) sink bowls have become the trend, recent consumer interest in double (2-BOWL) sink bowls, which feature two separate basins, is increasing, diversifying kitchen landscapes.

Sink bowl designs saw the double bowl (2-BOWL) style popular until the late 1980s, mainly applied to rayon sink bowls. However, in the early 1990s, the single bowl (1-BOWL) design was introduced and became dominant by the mid-1990s. Recently, due to changes in kitchen and dishwashing culture such as the use of dishwashers, separate washing, and soaking, preference for double sink bowls has risen again. According to Baekjo Sink’s own consumer survey, preference for double sink bowls increased slightly from 10% in 2019 to 12% in 2020. Although still a niche market, the preference is gradually growing.

Considering these market changes, Baekjo Sink has newly developed a unique modern double sink bowl with improved functionality and design.

The most notable feature is that this product is the first to apply a medium-sized drain, directly devised by Baekjo Sink. To facilitate smooth food waste disposal, the diameter is 42% larger than the small drain (89π) and 22% smaller than the large drain (162π). While the food waste storage capacity is higher than both the existing small and large drains, the usability of the sink bowl’s bottom surface is enhanced.

The design also stands out. The brushed finish increases surface durability and highlights a luxurious feel. Compared to the double sink bowls mainly applied to rayon sink bowls connected to stainless steel countertops in the past, this product offers a more sophisticated and unique charm. Additionally, an HPL drain cover and colored scrubber net are applied to diversify functionality. The actual product can be seen at Korea Build, held at COEX, Seoul, from the 12th to the 15th of next month.

A Baekjo Sink official stated, "With lifestyle changes such as the use of dishwashers, consumers who prioritize functionality over size are gradually increasing," adding, "We will proactively check market changes and develop and launch products accordingly to secure market competitiveness."
