Eco-friendly Water-repellent Paint Preventing Water Leakage from Apartment Exterior Walls Due to Rainwater Penetration

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] Samhwa Paint Industrial Co., Ltd. has launched 'I Saenggak Balsutex,' a water-repellent paint exclusively for apartment repainting.
Water-repellent paint is applied to the vertical exterior walls of buildings to enhance their durability. While waterproof paint is mainly applied to rooftops and floors to block water infiltration through thick coatings, water-repellent paint is applied to exterior bricks, cement, and concrete to prevent rainwater absorption, thereby protecting internal steel reinforcements from rusting.
Apartment exterior walls are mainly made of reinforced concrete and finished with water-based paint. When it rains, the water-based paint and concrete surfaces of apartment exterior walls get wet. Although rainwater does not pool on the exterior walls, prolonged exposure to rain during the rainy season or typhoons allows rainwater to seep into the wet paint and concrete, causing exterior wall leaks. Reducing water penetration through exterior walls decreases leaks and improves building durability.
I Saenggak Balsutex is an eco-friendly water-based paint composed mainly of acrylic emulsion and high-performance water repellents. It features excellent water repellency, alkali resistance, and weather resistance, effectively preventing exterior wall aging and protecting buildings. In particular, its high water repellency rating (R10) prevents damage to building exteriors caused by rainwater, maintaining building safety over a long period.
The water repellency measurement according to the test method 'KS M7057' ranges from R0 to R10, with higher numbers indicating greater water repellency.
Typically, water-repellent paints are most effective in white, with performance decreasing as colors become darker. However, I Saenggak Balsutex maintains high water repellency even in dark colors, making it suitable for apartment repainting where various colors are used.
A Samhwa Paint official stated, "The new product I Saenggak Balsutex meets the KS Type 1 Grade 1 standard for water-based exterior paints and is an eco-friendly certified product that complies with Ministry of Environment standards. It is suitable for exterior use on concrete, cement, mortar, and especially recommended for apartment repainting."
