[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] Recently, attorney Shin Pyeong, who publicly revealed his meeting with former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and declared his support, said that Yoon is currently deliberating over joining the People Power Party.
On the 26th, Shin posted on his Facebook, referring to the ongoing heated debate within the People Power Party about Yoon’s potential membership, with opinions ranging from "He should join as soon as possible" to "He should not." He began by saying, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon is repeatedly agonizing over the issue of joining the People Power Party."
He continued, "When Yoon visited Daegu and went to Suseong Lake on the 20th, a member of the 2.28 Uprising Comrades Association, who was a catalyst for the April 19 Revolution in 1960, told him, 'Those guys in the People Power Party still haven’t come to their senses, so you shouldn’t join right away.' That remark has been echoing in his ears," he conveyed.
Regarding this, he said, "I advised him, 'It is true that a considerable number of people hold negative views about the People Power Party, but Chairman Choi Jae-hyung joined first. Chairman Choi is by no means a selfish person and will likely bring significant changes to the party. Wouldn’t it be okay to join after confirming such changes?'" He added, "Taking into account advice from various people, I expect former Prosecutor General Yoon will make a decision soon."
Furthermore, attorney Shin mentioned, "Of course, Yoon should not merely aim to become president; he must become a 'president of unity' who heals this deeply divided country and opens a new era. I also proposed measures to achieve that goal."
Earlier, on the 24th, he publicly declared his support through his Facebook by mentioning his meeting with former Prosecutor General Yoon, stating, "I intend to do my best to ensure that candidate Yoon Seok-yeol becomes the new president next year."
Attorney Shin said, "From the moment the meeting began, I could recognize the breadth of candidate Yoon’s capacity. Although there are still noticeable shortcomings and negligence, I am confident that he will quickly address these flaws."
