[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Jo] Samsung Electronics unveiled a stepped 'digital waterfall' approximately 100 meters high in the heart of Times Square, New York, USA.
According to Samsung Electronics' US branch, on the 27th (local time), Samsung Electronics, together with digital design company d'stict, revealed this installation art called 'Waterfall NYC.'
Waterfall NYC is part of Samsung Electronics' digital art collaboration to showcase its display technology, depicting a refreshing waterfall cascading down a steel frame structure. Citizens and tourists passing through Times Square can view the massive digital waterfall for one minute every hour on the hour from that day until the 2nd of next month.
Harry Patz, Senior Vice President (SVP) of the Display Division at Samsung Electronics America, said, "We are pleased to demonstrate amazing visual creativity through Samsung Electronics' display technology. The cascading waterfall utilizes vertical signage products. The top screen and the three screens below are connected as one, providing an immersive and captivating visual experience."
Sean Lee, CEO of d'stict, said, "We hope people can cool off and find peace and comfort for a moment by encountering an unexpected surreal landscape in the city."
This billboard is the same one where Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Unpacked teaser video was recently released. Previously, in 2019, Samsung Electronics installed Samsung Smart LED signage billboards on the exterior wall of the landmark One Times Square building in Manhattan, New York. It consists of four vertical screens, with a total area of 1,081㎡ and a height of 110 meters. Vice President Patz added that this display supports a maximum brightness of 9,000 nits, the industry's highest level, allowing vivid video viewing even in bright daylight.
