[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Three cities in Gyeonggi Province?Seongnam, Siheung, and Anseong?were selected as the top institutions for 'fine dust reduction.'
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 28th that in the fine dust reduction evaluation conducted across 18 indicators in four areas, including the seasonal management system, divided into three groups by city and county population size?Group A (510,000 or more), Group B (210,000 to 500,000), and Group C (200,000 or less)?Seongnam, Siheung, and Anseong were selected as the top institutions. Suwon, Osan, and Guri were selected as excellent institutions, while Pyeongtaek, Yangju, and Uiwang were chosen as commendable institutions.
In Group A, many cities and counties were promoting the seasonal management system, the most important fine dust countermeasure, as a key management project. Notably, Seongnam’s operation of a public-private-mountain joint consultative body and the restructuring project of ready-mixed concrete plants, Suwon’s operation of ultra-fine dust managers, and Hwaseong’s detailed air quality measurement operations were cited as exemplary cases.
In Group B, Kimpo’s strengthened management standards for gravel pits, Hanam’s drone surveillance of dust-emitting workplaces and the establishment of a monitoring system utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology, Siheung’s demonstration project for intelligent indoor air quality improvement technology, and Osan’s operation of smart fine dust unmanned vending machines were evaluated as excellent cases.
For Group C, Uiwang’s smart management of logistics bases, rural-type cities and counties’ crackdowns on illegal burning and agricultural byproduct shredding projects, Guri’s installation of fine dust blocking screens, and Anseong’s fine dust satisfaction surveys were evaluated as excellent cases tailored to local conditions.
The province reduced the weighting of practical evaluations compared to last year and increased the weighting of expert evaluations.
Park Dae-geun, head of the Fine Dust Countermeasures Division of the province, said, "This evaluation was prepared to organically promote fine dust reduction policies between the province and cities/counties and to spread good cases. Since fine dust cannot be resolved by the efforts of any single local government alone, we will work harder to strengthen sharing and cooperation between the province and cities/counties."
