[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] Lee Da-bin (25, Seoul City Hall) won a precious silver medal in the last Taekwondo match for Korea. However, it was disappointing that Korea, the birthplace of Taekwondo, ended up with 'no gold' for the first time in Olympic history.
Lee Da-bin (25, Seoul City Hall) lost 7-10 to Milica Mandi? (Serbia) in the women's over 67kg final held on the 27th at Makuhari Messe Hall A in Chiba, Japan, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, earning the silver medal.
With this, Korea finished the Taekwondo event at this Olympics by participating in six weight categories and winning one silver medal and two bronze medals.
This is the first time since Taekwondo was adopted as an official event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics that Korea has failed to win a gold medal.
Besides Lee Da-bin, Korea secured bronze medals only through Jang Jun (Korea National Sport University) in the men's 58kg category and In Kyo-don (Korea Gas Corporation) in the over 80kg category at this competition.
If Lee Da-bin had won the gold medal at this Tokyo Olympics, she could have achieved a grand slam by topping all four major Taekwondo tournaments, but she was unable to overcome the final hurdle.
