Gyeongnam Province Reports 87 New COVID-19 Cases... 'Delta' Variant Confirmed Linked to Masan Nightclubs and Changwon Restaurants (Comprehensive 2)

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] A surge of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) occurred mainly in Changwon and Gimhae, Gyeongnam Province.


Gyeongsangnam-do announced that as of 5 p.m. on the 27th, 87 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed.


By region, there were 51 in Changwon, 22 in Gimhae, 8 in Yangsan, 2 in Geoje, and 1 each in Jinju, Sacheon, Miryang, and Goseong. Except for 5 cases from overseas arrivals, all are local infections.


Among the confirmed cases in Changwon, 9 are related to a local manufacturing company. On the 25th, during a proactive testing campaign conducted by health authorities targeting areas densely populated by foreigners through a 'mobile temporary screening clinic,' a small cluster infection was identified.


Among the confirmed cases, 8 were identified as foreign workers of Chinese and Vietnamese nationality. The cumulative number of confirmed cases is 11.


The health authorities disinfected and temporarily closed the company and are conducting an in-depth epidemiological investigation. Among the confirmed cases in Changwon, 3 are related to local restaurants, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases to 81.


The one confirmed case in Jinju is a contact of a confirmed case related to a local entertainment bar. The cumulative confirmed cases related to the Jinju entertainment bar are 37.


The confirmed cases related to Gimhae Entertainment Bar II increased by 2 in Gimhae, bringing the cumulative total to 229.


The rest had contact with confirmed cases within the province or from other regions, and some infection routes are still under investigation.


Accordingly, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 6,833 (1,058 hospitalized, 5,756 discharged, 19 deceased).
