[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver has refuted some parts of the Ministry of Employment and Labor's special labor inspection report related to the extreme choice of one of its employees, stating that they are not accurate.
On the 27th, Naver issued a statement saying, "Regarding the criticism that Naver's management was aware of workplace harassment in advance but did not proceed with an investigation or take separate measures, we have additional explanations to provide and will explain in more detail during the ongoing investigation process."
They continued, "The claim that unfavorable treatment was given to the reporter of workplace harassment is also not true, and we will sincerely provide additional explanations during the future investigation process."
Earlier, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the results of the special labor inspection, confirming workplace harassment against the deceased employee and the employer's violation of the duty to take action.
The Ministry judged that Naver failed to properly fulfill the employer's duty to take action, as it did not conduct an investigation to verify facts despite being aware that the deceased employee was continuously subjected to verbal abuse and humiliating behavior by an executive-level responsible leader.
In response, Naver stated, "We have taken possible measures after listening to the opinions of reporters and victims for all actual workplace harassment reports and cases reported through multiple channels to the company," adding, "When necessary, we have strived to take objective measures based on professional investigations and reviews by multiple labor law firms."
However, Naver said, "Through this incident, we have come to deeply realize that more in-depth and proactive measures are needed regarding workplace harassment," and added, "We will prepare and implement measures to prevent recurrence, such as reviewing and improving leader recruitment and appointment processes, and leadership training to raise sensitivity to organizational health."
Naver expressed, "We sincerely apologize once again to the deceased and the bereaved family. We deeply acknowledge the great responsibility for the wounds left on employees who took pride in being part of Naver," and stated, "We are preparing comprehensive changes to ensure that such incidents never happen again."
