Sungsil Cyber University (President Han Heon-su) Department of Korean Language Education held the closing meeting for the first semester of the 2021 academic year.
The Department of Korean Language Education held a meaningful event to conclude the semester on July 24th (Saturday) from 5 PM to 7 PM via the online video conferencing platform Zoom, attended by Professor Lee Eun-sil, Head of the Linguistics Department, Department Head Jang Jun-young, Song Kwon-sook, Director of the Sokuluk Sejong Institute in Kyrgyzstan, and about 50 enrolled students.
The closing meeting, held in two parts, featured in the first part a special lecture by Song Kwon-sook, Director of the Sokuluk Sejong Institute, on the topic of "Introduction to Turkic Ethnic Groups in the CIS Region (former Soviet Union) and Cases of Korean Language Education," capturing the attention of attendees. In the second part, as a specialized program of the Department of Korean Language Education, there was an excellent tutoring presentation related to one-on-one Korean language education classes conducted for overseas Sejong Institutes students from three locations: Algiers Sejong Institute in Algeria, Africa; Cainta Sejong Institute in the Philippines, Southeast Asia; and Sokuluk Sejong Institute in Kyrgyzstan. This session also provided an opportunity to hear various impressions about the classes.
Department Head Jang Jun-young said, "Looking back on the semester, I personally felt proud to see that the overall level has significantly improved through one-on-one Korean language classes with enrolled students and overseas local students." He added, "We plan to continuously discover and operate remote Korean language class content with Sejong Institutes to accelerate branding, aiming to make the Department of Korean Language Education a landmark."
Established under the slogan "Korean Language Communicating with the World!", the Department of Korean Language Education aims to train professional teachers suitable for various purposes, including multicultural education in the global era. The curriculum includes Korean linguistics, general linguistics and applied linguistics, Korean language education theory as a foreign language, Korean culture, and Korean language education practicum, enabling graduates to obtain Level 2 and Level 3 Korean language teacher certificates. Courses related to obtaining the Level 2 Multicultural Society Specialist certificate are also widely offered.
Meanwhile, marking its 24th anniversary this year, Sungsil Cyber University has built an e-learning system with powerful content and a state-of-the-art mobile LMS, allowing 100% lecture attendance and exam participation via PC and smartphones.
With tuition fees at about one-quarter the level of regular offline universities, the university operates various internal scholarship programs, including admission, general, academic, clergy (pastors, evangelists, missionaries, preachers and their families and church members) scholarships, military scholarships (for military officers and their families, veterans), corporate-sponsored education scholarships, scholarships for the disabled, and equal educational opportunity scholarships, supporting students to continue their studies without financial burden. Additionally, aiming to provide scholarship benefits to all students, the university supports all internal scholarship recipients with dual benefits from the Korea Student Aid Foundation's national scholarship and operates a specialized program allowing lifelong free access to major courses during and after enrollment.
Following the record-high competition rate for the regular admissions of the second semester of 2021, which ended on the 9th, Sungsil Cyber University will accept applications for additional admissions for the second semester from July 21 to August 18.
