Haenam-gun Implements City Water Truck Operation as Part of 'Comprehensive Measures Against Scorching Heat'

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Water spraying trucks are roaming the streets of Haenam to lower the road surface temperature caused by the continuous scorching heat.

According to Haenam County on the 27th, water spraying vehicles have been operating since the 26th, focusing on the town area and major roads within the jurisdiction to alleviate the urban heat island effect and wash away fine dust.

The water spraying trucks frequently patrol the roads, helping to cool down the heat in the city area.

The county has designated the period until September 30 as the scorching heat countermeasure period and is making every effort to minimize damage from the rapid heatwave following the heavy rains during the monsoon season.

They have designated and are operating 572 cooling shelters such as senior centers and village halls that elderly people vulnerable to the heat can use, and cooling fog (water mist spraying devices) facilities are operating at eight major tourist sites.

In addition, 25 shaded rest shelters have been installed at crosswalks with heavy pedestrian traffic to prevent heat-related illnesses among pedestrians, and disaster helpers plan to thoroughly protect elderly people living alone who are vulnerable to the heat by visiting their homes or checking on them by phone.

Sunshades for blocking sunlight and bottled water are also being supplied to disaster-vulnerable groups.

A county official said, “We hope to provide relief to citizens exhausted by the heat through road water spraying,” and added, “We will continue road water spraying operations to ensure that citizens can safely get through the summer.”
