[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] South and North Korea have agreed to restore the communication lines that had been severed. It has been about 13 months since North Korea unilaterally cut off the lines.

Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Communication, held a briefing on the 27th and said, "South and North Korea have agreed to restore the inter-Korean communication lines that had been cut off as of 10 a.m. on July 27."

Chief Park stated, "The leaders of South and North Korea have exchanged letters several times since April to communicate on the issue of restoring inter-Korean relations, and during this process, they agreed to first restore the severed communication lines. They also shared the intention to quickly restore mutual trust and further advance the relationship."

Shortly after the Blue House announcement, the North confirmed this fact and expressed the position that "it will have a positive effect on the development of inter-Korean relations."
