Samsung Electronics Transfers 172 Patent Technologies Free of Charge to 99 SMEs

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 27th that Samsung Electronics has decided to share 172 patent technologies free of charge with 99 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.


The patent technologies that Samsung Electronics is transferring free of charge this time include many technologies in the 4th industrial revolution and Green New Deal sectors, such as digital, artificial intelligence (AI), energy saving, and process technologies.


Including the technology sharing confirmed this year, Samsung Electronics has provided a total of 784 patents to 391 companies since 2015. It plans to continue opening its patents to SMEs through participation in technology sharing.


Technology sharing, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is a project that started in 2013 to transfer unused technologies owned by large companies to SMEs free of charge.


An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "Many companies receiving technology transfers this time proposed plans to develop various innovative products, such as virtual environment and content production based on 3D technology," and added, "If companies need to develop follow-up technologies for the transferred technologies, we plan to support their participation in the 'R&D Rediscovery Project' program."
