[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] Three rookie police officers collapsed from heatstroke during outdoor training in the heatwave, with one in critical condition.
On the 26th, the police announced that three rookie patrol officers collapsed from exhaustion while undergoing running training at the Central Police Academy in Chungju, Chungbuk, around 6 p.m. the previous day and were transported to the hospital.
Among them, one remains in critical condition and unconscious, while the other two are receiving inpatient treatment. According to the summer training guidelines, training should not be conducted during heatwave warnings. Chungju City had been under a heatwave warning for five consecutive days since the 21st.
However, the police mistakenly believed the heat advisory was in effect when the temperature in Chungju reached 31.5 degrees Celsius around 4 p.m. the previous day and conducted outdoor training for about two hours.
A police official stated, "All those who wished to be excused from training were excluded," adding, "The three patrol officers who collapsed did not wish to be excused." He continued, "We provided about 40 minutes of rest intermittently during the training," and added, "We will do our best to provide treatment."
