Jeonnam Province and City-County Strengthen Collaboration on COVID-19 Prevention Measures

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province and its cities and counties have decided to strengthen their collaboration on COVID-19 prevention.

On the 26th, the province announced that due to the impact of the 4th wave of COVID-19, with the nationwide daily average of confirmed cases exceeding 1,000, the risk of spread has increased in Jeonnam as well, prompting an emergency video conference on prevention measures with 22 cities and counties.

Recently, cluster infection cases have occurred throughout Jeonnam, resulting in an average of about 19 confirmed cases per day, pushing the total number beyond 1,900.

Under the chairmanship of Moon Geum-ju, Vice Governor of Jeonnam Province, about 70 participants including deputy heads of 22 cities and counties, disaster safety managers, public health center directors, and infectious disease response team leaders attended to share and assess the COVID-19 situation and discuss additional infection and spread prevention measures.

They focused especially on countermeasures against the recently prevalent Delta variant, strict management of prevention rules following the elevation to social distancing level 3, and prevention measures against heatwaves during the summer season.

They unanimously agreed that urgent prevention management is required for the Delta variant, which spreads 1.64 times faster and has greater transmissibility than the existing coronavirus.

Vice Governor Moon Geum-ju stated, “Amid the nationwide COVID-19 crisis, with increased visitors to other regions during the vacation season and the dominance of highly contagious variants, the entire Jeonnam region is in an emergency situation,” and urged, “The province, cities and counties, public health centers, and COVID-19 related agencies must respond with full efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the summer.”
