Jeju Police Reveal Personal Information of Suspects Baek Gwangseok and Kim Sinam in Middle School Student Murder Case

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Police Agency (Chief Kang Hwangsoo) announced on the 26th at 11 a.m. that it held a personal information disclosure committee meeting and decided to disclose the identities of the suspects in the "middle school student murder case."

The personal information disclosure committee consists of a total of seven members: three police officers from the Jeju Police Agency and four external members including lawyers, doctors, and religious figures.

The committee also fully considered reasons for non-disclosure such as the suspects' human rights and the secondary damage that could be inflicted on the suspects' families and acquaintances due to the disclosure.

It was confirmed that the suspects premeditated the crime by conspiring in advance and purchasing tools for the crime, and that two adults jointly and brutally murdered the middle school student victim.

The committee concluded that the consequences are serious, there is sufficient evidence including confessions from the suspects, and that all conditions for disclosure are met, including respect for the public's right to know, prevention of recidivism, and alignment with public interest.

A Jeju police official stated, "To prevent secondary damage to the suspects' families and others due to the disclosure of the suspects' identities, a separate suspect family protection team will be operated under the leadership of the head of the Criminal Division of Jeju Dongbu Police Station to strengthen monitoring."
