[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Yap Mobile is promoting the supply of beacon devices equipped with IoT functions, aiming for up to 1 million units annually, in partnership with KOSDAQ-listed company Egjax, to build IoT infrastructure for 1 million small business owners nationwide.
Yap Mobile announced on the 23rd that it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Egjax for the manufacture and delivery of up to 1 million ‘YAP Beacon’ devices over the next year. Following this MOU, Yap Mobile and Egjax will form a task force to manufacture and supply the IoT-dedicated device ‘YAP Beacon’ and plan to coordinate detailed contract terms and schedules as soon as possible.
The ‘YAP Beacon,’ which Egjax will be responsible for manufacturing and supplying, is expected to be linked with the solution ‘YAP Order,’ which provides contactless ordering functions via smartphones. Yap Mobile aims to secure infrastructure for 1 million small business stores such as cafes and restaurants nationwide and plans to offer free installation support of ‘YAP Order’ for the first batch of applicant stores during the next month. Depending on the results of August, the scope of free installation will be further expanded until the end of the year.
A company official stated, “The ‘YAP Beacon’ to be supplied through this contract has been applied to essential services gaining attention in the untact era, including the ‘Mobile Order’ system of the world’s largest global coffee franchise brand since 2014, as well as the COVID-19 confirmed case notification service ‘Green Zone, Green Pass pilot project’ currently underway in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Since Egjax, which has proven competitiveness in IoT device manufacturing, will be in charge of supplying the core product device of the service expected to spread and be applied across industries, we plan to maximize optimal synergy between the two companies.”
Meanwhile, Egjax, which will manufacture the ‘YAP Beacon,’ has actively strengthened its competitiveness in IoT device manufacturing in recent years by developing RFID tag technology, recognized as a core technology in the IoT sector applicable to various fields such as paper, glass, film, clothing, blood glucose meters, and pharmaceuticals.
