[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, and opposition candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, former Prosecutor General, will meet on the 25th.
According to the People Power Party and Yoon's campaign team, Lee and Yoon are scheduled to have a meeting near Konkuk University Station in Seoul at 6 p.m. that day.
This dinner meeting between Lee and Yoon is their second since the private introductory meeting on the 6th.
During this meeting, it is expected that Yoon's entry into the People Power Party will be discussed. Lee has repeatedly pressured Yoon to join the party.
On the previous day, Lee posted on Facebook that if Yoon does not join the party by August, they will have no choice but to engage in a tug-of-war over unifying opposition candidates until February next year. Lee said, "If an outsider joins the party and there is no primary election, after our party's candidate is selected, party members will inevitably have to abandon their duty to support our party's candidate," adding, "If that period extends from the November selection to February, that election will be nothing but internal division."
In particular, Lee hinted at "active disciplinary action" against party members who support Yoon even before Yoon's party entry is decided. Lee emphasized, "Party candidates are free to assist and hold positions within the campaign, but for outsiders, caution is advised."
