[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is recruiting performance groups to participate in the ‘2021 Second Half Seocho Friday Concert’ until the 30th to relieve the cultural thirst of the performing arts community and residents, who have been stagnated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The ‘Seocho Friday Concert,’ the longest-running concert among local governments nationwide, opened its first door in 1994 as the New Year Concert and has been held 1,159 times over 27 years, taking responsibility for Seocho residents’ Friday evenings. It has established itself as the district’s representative cultural and artistic performance, sharing the joys and sorrows of life through Korean traditional music, orchestras, musicals, and sometimes our popular songs filled with the public’s emotions.
This year, amid the COVID-19 situation, the district is presenting performances to residents online through the YouTube channel ‘Seocho Friday Concert.’
In particular, since March, on-site performances have resumed, and offline performances are being held concurrently at Banpo Simsang Art Hall within the Simsang Memorial Cultural Center under strict quarantine guidelines.
The recruitment targets are cultural and artistic performance groups such as classical, Korean traditional music, and jazz. The selection of performance groups will be conducted through a review by the steering committee in August, considering performance records, project execution ability, excellence, and artistry of the program.
Afterward, the selected groups will perform once every Friday at 7:30 PM from August to December at Banpo Simsang Art Hall in the Simsang Memorial Cultural Center, and the district will provide the performance groups with the stage, sound equipment, and honorarium.
For detailed information about the recruitment of ‘Seocho Friday Concert’ performance groups, please refer to the notice on the Seocho-gu Office website or contact the Seocho-gu Culture and Tourism Division.
Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo said, “I hope that through the Seocho Friday Concert, cultural artists exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can relieve their frustrations and showcase their talents. Also, in line with the reputation as the longest-running concert among local governments nationwide, we will provide opportunities to relieve residents’ cultural thirst with dignified performances.”
