Kim Jeong-hwan, the eldest member of the men's sabre fencing team (Korea Sports Promotion Foundation), secured his third consecutive Olympic medal. On the 24th, at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, he defeated Sandro Bazadze of Georgia 15-11 in the men's sabre individual bronze medal match at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Kim Jeong-hwan was the only member of the men's sabre team to advance to the semifinals but suffered a 12-15 comeback loss to Luigi Samele of Italy. However, he showed remarkable concentration in the latter part of the match against Bazadze and once again stood on the podium. Kim Jeong-hwan was a member of the gold medal-winning men's team at the 2012 London Olympics. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the individual event.
