[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seocho District Council's research group, 'Seocho Future Policy Research Association (Chairman Ko Gwang-min),' held a kickoff meeting for the 'Seocho-type Safe Walking Path Road Environment Improvement Project' on the 21st at the Seocho District Council's 1st Committee Room to secure pedestrian rights.
The kickoff meeting began with an opening address by Chairman Ko Gwang-min, attended by Councilors Kim An-sook, Jang Ok-jun, Lee Hyun-sook, Kim Ik-tae, Choi Won-jun, and Park Ji-hyo.
The project kickoff report was presented by Naru I&C, the company in charge of the project, followed by discussions among the participating councilors. After the meeting, they visited the site to directly inspect the planned location for the Seocho-type Safe Walking Path.
The Seocho-type Safe Walking Path aims to provide a safe pedestrian walkway on residential back roads where the risk of traffic accidents is high due to the mixing of pedestrians and vehicles. In the future, a smart traffic safety system will be introduced to establish a nationwide standard model for living roads. After the pilot project is completed this year, plans will be established annually from 2022 to gradually expand the project.
Chairman Ko Gwang-min of the Seocho Future Policy Research Association stated, “Back roads dominated by vehicles must change to be people-centered,” adding, “We will continue to maintain interest so that the Seocho-type Safe Walking Path can become a nationwide standard model that contributes to the actual safety of pedestrians.”
