[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] In the first half of this year, the number of issuing companies participating in electronic registration of stocks through the Korea Securities Depository reached 982, with the number of shares issued totaling 10.1 billion and the issuance amount approximately 21 trillion KRW. The number of issuing companies increased by 39.7% compared to the same period last year (703 companies), the number of shares issued increased by 55.5% compared to the same period last year (6.5 billion shares), and the issuance amount also increased by 164.8% compared to the same period last year (8 trillion KRW).
According to the Depository on the 23rd, since the implementation date of the electronic securities system (September 16, 2019), the number of issuing companies and issuance amounts participating in electronic registration of stocks have steadily increased every half year. The number of issuing companies increased from 516 companies (second half of 2019) → 703 companies (first half of 2020) → 852 companies (second half of 2020) → 982 companies (first half of 2021). The issuance amount increased from 7.4 trillion KRW (second half of 2019) → 8 trillion KRW (first half of 2020) → 18.7 trillion KRW (second half of 2020) → 21.2 trillion KRW (first half of 2021).
By market, the issuance amounts were 14.4044 trillion KRW in the KOSPI market, 4.469 trillion KRW in KOSDAQ, and 98.4 billion KRW in KONEX.
By reason for stock issuance, paid-in capital increase was the largest at 17.6035 trillion KRW, followed by exercise of convertible bonds (CB) and bonds with warrants (BW) at 3.3068 trillion KRW, and stock options at 193.2 billion KRW.
The top companies by IPO public offering issuance amount in the first half were SK Bioscience (994.5 billion KRW), SK IE Technology (898.4 billion KRW), and SoluM (108.8 billion KRW).
