[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Soo-hyun, Senior Secretary for Public Communication at the Blue House, explained that President Moon Jae-in's remark about implementing Level 4 social distancing measures in the Seoul metropolitan area with the intention to "end it quickly and decisively" did not mean that the Level 4 measures would end within two weeks.
On the 22nd, Park appeared on JTBC's 'Ssulzun Live' and responded to the host's question implying that despite applying Level 4 measures for two weeks, the number of confirmed cases did not decrease, contrary to the President's statement.
Park said, "It takes more than two weeks for the effects of social distancing to appear," adding, "Interpreting the President's remark as 'ending it within two weeks' is too hasty."
He added, "It was certainly an appeal to focus on quarantine efforts and to end the high-intensity measures quickly."
Regarding the pardon discussions about Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong or former presidents, Park said, "I neither know nor have heard anything about that."
