Facility Improvement of Songpa-gu Youth Support Center

Asbestos Removal and Replacement of Aging Facilities... Providing a Safe Educational Environment for Out-of-School Youth

Facility Improvement of Songpa-gu Youth Support Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seongsu) has completed facility improvements including asbestos removal at the Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim, renovating it into a safe learning space.

Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim (7 Songpadaero 14-gil) was remodeled in 2016 as the only standalone building among the 25 districts, with a total floor area of 627㎡, consisting of basement level 1 and floors 2 to 4 above ground. It has supported out-of-school youth by considering their individual characteristics and needs through counseling, education, job experience, employment, and self-reliance programs.

The district undertook a full facility improvement to provide a safer and more comfortable educational environment, considering that the users of Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim are adolescents.

In particular, since the Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim building was constructed in 1996 and contained asbestos, an asbestos safety manager had been designated to conduct asbestos safety risk assessments. Through this renovation, asbestos removal was carried out and completed.

Additionally, ceiling painting, wallpapering, and electrical lighting were reinstalled, and old toilets, washbasins, and ventilation fans were fully replaced to ensure no inconvenience in restroom use.

Youth Support Center Kkumdeulim plans to conduct career and job experience activities, as well as learning support and counseling for qualification exams and the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), in the safer and more comfortable renovated space for out-of-school youth.

Park Seongsu, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “There should never be any safety threats in facilities frequently used by youth,” adding, “We will continue to focus on regular facility improvements so that out-of-school youth can freely nurture their talents and dreams at the center through ongoing attention and support.”
