Ministry of Education: "No Personal Data Leak in Self-Diagnosis App... Police Investigation Requested"

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education is strengthening security measures and requesting a police investigation regarding the mysterious push notifications sent from the self-diagnosis mobile application.

On the 22nd, the Ministry of Education stated, "As a result of analyzing the cause of repeated push notifications from the self-diagnosis app, it was confirmed that an unidentified user sent random push notifications using the information of push notification users. No unusual incidents such as personal information leakage beyond the sending were found."

In the early morning of the 14th, notifications such as "Everyone, please do your self-diagnosis!! Can't you see the number of confirmed cases increasing?", "The security of the self-diagnosis is too weak", and "Let's enter the self-diagnosis" were sent from the self-diagnosis app. During this process, it was revealed that the attacker used 5 IP addresses and 10 user authentication values.

The Ministry of Education will respond strictly to the self-diagnosis app breach incident by requesting a cyber investigation from the National Police Agency and strengthening the security of the self-diagnosis system.

The Ministry of Education has blocked access by verifying the internet addresses used to send the push notifications and the push notification user information. To enhance the security of the self-diagnosis app, new authentication values for faculty members with push notification permissions will be issued under an improved system, and a virtual keypad will be applied to prevent user password exposure and the use of automated programs (such as macros).
