LG Uplus Selected as Telecommunications Big Data Center... Building Data Dam

Selected for National Project to Build Big Data Center
Yonsei University Wonju Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and Life Log Data Fusion Production

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] LG Uplus announced on the 22nd that it has been selected as the big data center for the 'Lifelog (Health)' sector of the national project for building the Data Dam, led by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).

This national project supports the accumulation and utilization of data needed across industries and the establishment of big data centers. The government plans to build big data centers in 16 sectors including lifelog, finance, distribution, and consumption to collect, analyze, and manage various data. The produced data will be provided for future use by users of the lifelog big data platform.

LG Uplus plans to fuse and produce lifelog-related data in collaboration with the executing institution Yonsei University Wonju Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. It will link LG Uplus's telecommunications data such as time-based floating population, call volume, IPTV and U+ Mobile TV viewing history with lifelog data accumulated at 10 big data centers. The 10 centers include Korea University Medical Center, Kangwon National University Hospital, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, i-SENS, Bagel Labs, Huray Positive, Goodoc, Korean Audiological Society, Kweather, and Healthmax.

Park Jong-wook, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of LG Uplus, said, "We plan to actively support small and medium-sized enterprises and startups to utilize data to enhance customer value," adding, "We will establish a system that can continuously secure data rather than one-time efforts and create joint business models with major health industry players."
