[Hanjeong-eun's Beginner Golfer Special Lecture⑤] Using Practice Sheets 100 Times More Effectively "Set Your Own Target"

Practice changing targets by switching setup left and right, check club and stance lines every shot, "Hone various shots with different clubs"

[Hanjeong-eun's Beginner Golfer Special Lecture⑤] Using Practice Sheets 100 Times More Effectively "Set Your Own Target" Place an extra golf club between the ball and your body to check if the club and stance are aligned.

"I need a target."

This week's fifth session of [Han Jeong-eun's Beginner Golf Special Lecture] is about effective practice methods. Simply hitting balls at the driving range does not help improve skills. The practice mat is especially consistent. The reason for changing your setup left and right to create 'your own target' at the point where the ball flies is to develop swing feel. The key points are to practice various shots such as half swings, 3/4 swings, and full swings with different clubs.

The golf course is an open space. Setting a target is difficult. You need to improve accuracy beforehand at the practice range. Before every shot, carefully follow the 'pre-shot routine' learned earlier, including grip, address, and body balance. Here, you can use an extra golf club. As shown in , place it between the ball and your body to check if the club and stance align. If you set the target to the left, move the club and stance lines accordingly.

For the driver, trajectory is most important. You can experiment by lowering the tee for a high trajectory or raising it for a low trajectory. If the course is short, occasionally check your long game with woods and hybrids at a driving range over 150 yards. Malignant ball flights like slices or hooks usually appear beyond 150 yards. Beginners mostly fear the slice, where the ball curves from left to right. Try correcting it by adjusting your grip and setup.

The key to iron shots is a 'downblow'. Keep your lower body firm and strike down on the ball. It's interesting that the mat helps reduce mishits. Even if you contact behind the ball, the mat's elasticity gives a false impression of a good hit. However, in real play, this results in a fat shot. Nowadays, many places have adjustable mats. Understand how trajectory changes with slopes such as uphill, downhill, side uphill, or side downhill.

[Hanjeong-eun's Beginner Golfer Special Lecture⑤] Using Practice Sheets 100 Times More Effectively "Set Your Own Target" Know the distances according to the size of each swing, such as half swing (left) and full swing.

The last point is changing swing size. For wedges, having a definite swing standard for each distance is essential. Half swings and full swings have distances very useful when aiming for the green. If practice gets boring, hold two short irons, one in each hand, and swing slowly. To avoid the clubs hitting each other, your hands, arms, and torso rhythm naturally become smoother. This is a great tip to improve shot consistency.
