Say "Chaeksang Kkumigi" instead of "Deskterior"

'Inlink' and 'Outlink' Recommended to be Replaced with 'Naebu Yeon-gyeol' and 'Oebu Yeon-gyeol' Respectively

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 21st that the term 'deskterior' be replaced with the Korean phrase 'chaeksang kkumigi' (책상 꾸미기), meaning 'desk decorating.' They also suggested 'naebu yeongyeol' (내부 연결) and 'oebu yeongyeol' (외부 연결) as Korean alternatives for 'in link' and 'out link,' respectively.

Deskterior refers to the act of decorating desks in offices or similar settings. The selection of 'chaeksang kkumigi' was based on survey results. In a public acceptance survey conducted from the 9th to the 14th with about 2,000 participants, 97.5% of respondents agreed that the term was appropriate. Additionally, 62.7% agreed on the necessity of replacing foreign terms with Korean words.

In link refers to a method where the information searched by a user is found and displayed within the same website. Out link refers to a method where clicking on the search result takes the user to the corresponding web page. The Ministry and the Institute decided on the replacement terms 'naebu yeongyeol' and 'oebu yeongyeol' at the New Words Committee meeting held on the 7th.

The New Words Committee is a panel that provides Korean alternatives easily understood by the general public before difficult foreign neologisms spread. Experts from various fields including Korean language, foreign languages, education, public relations and publishing, information and communication, and journalism participate. The Ministry and the Institute plan to continuously promote the use of these alternatives, encouraging government agencies and media outlets to take the lead.
