CJ Logistics Secures Additional 200,000-Pyeong e-Fulfillment Center with Naver

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] CJ Logistics announced on the 21st that it plans to secure an additional fulfillment center of over 200,000 pyeong in cooperation with Naver. Fulfillment refers to a service where a logistics specialist company handles packaging and delivery of orders on behalf of sellers.

The 200,000-pyeong fulfillment center will be operated mainly around Naver Smart Store, which has up to 460,000 stores, and CJ Logistics’ strengths in advanced logistics technology and operational know-how will combine with large-scale infrastructure to provide qualitative growth in e-commerce and various last-mile services.

CJ Logistics currently provides ‘e-fulfillment’ services to Naver Smart Store and e-commerce companies, centered on Gonjiam (32,000 pyeong) and Gunpo Center (11,600 pyeong). In August, it will begin operating a cold chain fulfillment center (5,800 pyeong) specialized in low-temperature products in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

Taking this expansion of fulfillment infrastructure as an opportunity, CJ Logistics will lead the ‘great transformation of warehouses.’ CJ Logistics plans to build a ‘smart floor’ at the Gunpo Center and introduce advanced logistics technologies such as unmanned transport robots and automated packaging systems by the end of the year. Facilities like the ‘AI robotic arm’ currently operated at the Dongtan Logistics Center will also be expanded to the new infrastructure, and advanced equipment linked to fulfillment centers and parcel delivery sites, such as intelligent scanner ITS and automatic sorter wheel sorters, will be continuously upgraded.

Through this, CJ Logistics plans to accelerate the establishment of new last-mile services. Following the basic form of the e-fulfillment service, ‘orders closed by 24 hours to next-day delivery,’ new service models segmented by time slots such as dawn delivery and same-day delivery will be created. Infrastructure and last-mile service design suitable for products requiring various delivery methods and time slots, such as fresh food and daily necessities, will also become possible. In cooperation with Naver, CJ Logistics will also take the lead in eco-friendly management by supplying paper packaging materials to sellers entering the fulfillment center.
