Gwangju Nam-gu Youth Counseling Center's 'Visiting Counseling' Receives Positive Response

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) is receiving positive responses for its ‘Visiting Counseling’ program conducted for local children and adolescents.

According to the Nam-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center, which is operated under consignment by Gwangju University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation on the 20th, counselors visit local elementary, middle, and high schools to conduct the ‘Visiting School Counseling’ program, which includes in-depth emotional and behavioral assessments.

This program conducts Personality Assessment Inventory for Adolescents (PAI-A) and Sentence Completion Test (SCT) to support hospitalization and treatment costs and help school adaptation.

Since June, the program has visited Munseong High School, Daekwang Girls’ High School, Songwon Girls’ High School, Donga Girls’ Middle School, Dongseong Girls’ Middle School, and Dongseong High School, and plans to visit 17 schools in the second semester.

Additionally, the program promotes internet and smartphone addiction prevention projects and group counseling programs by conducting Media Usage Self-Diagnosis Scale (K·S) and Youth Self-Report (YSR) tests to apply proper media use in daily life.

In the first semester, the internet and smartphone addiction prevention projects were conducted at eight schools including Songwon High School, Bityeoul Elementary School, Bongseon Elementary School, Jinje Elementary School, Bullo Elementary School, Samyuk High School, Jangsan Elementary School, and Daeseong Elementary School.

Group counseling programs were implemented at Munseong Middle School, Jesuk Elementary School, and Hyodeok Elementary School. In the second semester, counseling programs will be conducted at 11 schools.

Gwangju University plans to visit schools to conduct internet and smartphone usage scale tests, check usage habits, and provide appropriate usage guidelines. They also plan to assist further intervention by linking individual counseling or internet healing camps.

Center Director Lim Hyungtaek said, “Counseling through psychological tests will help adolescents establish a proper self-value system and adapt to school life,” and added, “We will continue to develop various counseling programs so that adolescents can receive appropriate counseling when needed.”

Meanwhile, schools wishing to participate in the ‘Visiting Counseling’ program can contact the Nam-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center.
